A SUSTAINABLE WAY OF PRODUCING

MADE TO ORDER

We are passionate about a return to slow fashion where we produce items on a made-to-order basis. This not only reflects our Great Grandmother, and labels namesake, Florence’s designer and seamstress practices in the 19th century, but our commitment to reducing landfill fashion waste. Producing only what is ordered on a weekly basis ensures we have no excess inventory and it is our hope that our customers are prompted to purchase based on thoughtful consumption with our items becoming investment pieces handed down from generation to generation rather than being discarded after a season.

With our e-boutique opening once a week for a 24-hour trunkshow, it is only when an order is placed that our team begins the 2 – 3 week process of lovingly creating each item. From receiving the fabric, to cutting, to making the garment a sense of value and bespoke sensibility is sewn into the seams of each piece.

24-HOUR TRUNKSHOW

We want our customers to purchase consciously and that is why we only open our e-boutique once a week for 24 hour trunkshows. This allows time for thought as to the need of a piece and how it may fit into a persons wardrobe with the end result being what we hope is an added sense of value – all important aspects of the slow fashion movement.

LIMITED EDITION

Limited edition pieces add a bespoke sensibility to our collection. Our designs using deadstock fabric are particularly limited where it’s new owner will be in some cases only one of thirty.

Our pieces are all a few of a kind and we hope they will become treasured pieces in your wardrobe.

MADE IN NEW ZEALAND

We are committed to producing responsibly and sustainably. That is why all our pieces are 100% ethically made in New Zealand. We work directly with independent machinists and locally owned businesses which means we are in regular contact and can easily and frequently visit our production workplaces. This ensures that not only the highest standard of workmanship is met and our local community supported but ethical and transparent production is achieved.

Every one of our machinists is an integral part of the Florence & Fortitude team. Their skill, expertise, dedication and love for their craft is exceptional and is translated into each piece

FABRIC USAGE EFFICIENCY

Cut efficiency

We want to minimise our fabric waste as much as possible so we have spent time on ensuring the maximum utlisation of fabric is achieved at the cutting stage.

Use of Fabric Offcuts

Rather than discarding fabric offcuts from items produced where possible accessories are created from this fabric.

DESIGN

To create responsibly, we are conscious to create pieces that are not only timeless and that will enhance the female silhouette but are made to last in their design, construction and craftmanship. It is our aim to promote conscious consumerism where the focus is to buy less with each piece thoughtfully considered in terms of sustainability and longevity.

GET TO KNOW YOUR PIECE

We want you to have as much detail about your Florence & Fortitude piece as possible so the ethical and sustainability features of each piece is included both on our website as well as the information card sent with each order. From where the fabric is sourced to whom cut and made the piece it is important to us to be as transparent as possible and for each pieces journey to be shared.
